An object in motion stays in motion. A fundamental law of physics, and appropriate inspiration for the title of a record from a musical project that has shapeshifted over and over in order to continue forward. Formed from the scraps of a collection of songs, Silhouette Cities started as a recording project. As time has rolled on, the project has taken form in a number of different iterations including as a solo acoustic act, a full band arrangement and back to a studio project.

The sound of Silhouette Cities is rooted in alternative and hard rock, with flashes of punk and metal. All recordings have been performed by Phil Saraceno, Mark Kuczynski and Don Saraceno.

A recent transplant to DC at the time, in 2011 Phil teamed up with Washington-area producer (and fellow New Jersey native) Dave Mallen to begin recording what would become the debut release Objects in MotionMark Kuczynski (of Philadelphia) joined midway through the project and recorded drums on the 5 song EP, which would later be released in January 2012.

With the EP wrapped up, released and gaining momentum locally, Phil and Mark looked to form a group of players to start performing live. Bill Gross joined on bass, and Saraceno brother, Don, rounded out the lineup on guitar. In the meantime, the Saraceno brothers had taken a weeklong trip up to Pine Island, NY to record the 2nd studio album No Worse for the Wear. The album was produced by John Collura (formerly of The Ataris) and recorded in Collura’s studio, Silent Owl Studios, with Mike Menocker behind the board. No Worse for the Wear was released on physical and digital platforms August 4th, 2015 including Spotify, Apple Music and more.

Silhouette Cities played its last live performance in 2016. After a hiatus of sorts, and when the world came to a grinding halt in 2020, it allowed for an opportunity to begin creating again. With new songs written and recorded, Silhouette Cities looks to release more music later this year.
